Jesus & the Holy Week - Thursday

Hi, Kids!

This is a very special week – when Jesus was on Earth, this was the week before He died and rose again! If you read the stories of this week in your Bible, you’ll find that Jesus did some pretty neat things. We’ll look at some of these events every day this week. Today we’re going to look at…

Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet (John 13:1-35)

So Jesus is full of the power of the anointing (yesterday we saw how He was anointed for His burial), and what does He do? Does He go host a miracle service and heal everyone? Does He try to overthrow the Romans and take charge of Israel as king? No! He washes His disciples’ feet. Instead of choosing power, He chooses humility and serves those He has called to preach the gospel all over the world (they just don’t know it yet). If you’d like to watch a video of this story,  check this one out!

Jesus told His disciples He was doing this as an example of how they should treat each other. Then He says something very amazing, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:35)

Notice He didn’t say that others would know we’re following Jesus because we’re smart, or we can do great miracles, but simply because of our ability to love. When we talked yesterday about the anointing upon us giving us power to do the job God has for us on Earth, this is that job: to love! When we love others the way Jesus loves us, that’s true power and a true reflection of His power in us.

Let’s pray together…

“Dear Father, thank You for the power of Your love. Help me to love others and serve others to show them Your love for them. Holy Spirit, be my helper. Speak to those around me through Your love in me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Here’s a verse to read today. Read it out loud with your mom and dad. Talk about what it means with them…

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you.” John 13:34

And here’s a fun activity idea for you! Today is a warm day, and I’m sure the plants under the snow are getting ready to come alive:  Egg carton flowers

Take a picture of your results and send it to me at hello@gatewayvictory.com. Blessings on your day!
