Jesus & the Holy Week - Wednesday
Hey Kids!
This is a very special week – when Jesus was on Earth, this was the week before He died and rose again! If you read the stories of this week in your Bible, you’ll find that Jesus did some pretty neat things. We’ll look at some of these events every day this week. Today we’re going to look at…
Jesus Teaches His disciples, and Mary Anoints Jesus (Matthew 26:6-13; Mark 14:3-9; John 12:2-8)
Jesus took time to cleanse the temple, getting rid of what didn’t belong, and to curse the fig tree, getting rid of what was unfruitful. He does the same in our hearts. What did Jesus do next? He began to teach His disciples, and the multitudes who came to hear Him. He was filling them with truth that would produce good fruit in their lives! Next, He was anointed with some very expensive, perfumed oil. Jesus said it was getting Him ready for His burial! So just like in the stories we’ve looked at, we’ve also asked Jesus to come and cleanse our hearts and remove unfruitful believing. What’s next? I’m glad you asked! Once Jesus removes things from our hearts, He wants to fill our hearts! How does He do that? He gives us His truth, and then He anoints us.
Where do we get truth? From His Word. If you don’t already, it’s so important to have a daily time where you read His Word. It helps to keep out of your heart what doesn’t belong, and what doesn’t produce fruit.
Where do we get anointing? From His Spirit. Every time someone in the Bible was anointed, it gave them the power or ability to do a special job. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we receive His anointing to fulfill the special job God has for us to do here on Earth. It might be preaching the gospel in a faraway country, or it may be praying for those around you to be touched by Jesus. No matter what, receiving His anointing will make that job so much easier.
Let’s pray together…
“Dear Father, thank You for giving me Your truth and Your anointing. Holy Spirit, I receive the power of Your truth now. I ask you to anoint me with the power and ability to do the job You have for me today, and my whole life. Thank You for everything! In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
Here’s a verse to read today. Read it out loud with your mom and dad. Talk about what it means with them…
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because the Lord has anointed me.” Luke 4:18
And here’s a fun activity idea for you! The sun is supposed to shine today, and here’s a great craft idea to catch it: Stained Glass Crosses
