Jesus & the Holy Week - Friday

Hi, Kids!

This is a very special week – when Jesus was on Earth, this was the week before He died and rose again! If you read the stories of this week in your Bible, you’ll find that Jesus did some pretty neat things. We’ve looked at some of these events every day this week. This is our last day and we’re going to look at…

The Last Supper (Matthew 26:26-30, Mark 14:22-26, Luke 22:14-20)

One of the very last things Jesus did before He was arrested and then crucified, was have dinner with His disciples. He did something very special there that we still do today: He took what we call “communion” with them. If you’d like to watch a video of this story, here are two really good ones:

Jesus knew His time was finished here on Earth, and His disciples would be left with the special job to preach the gospel to the world. It was pretty important that He leave them with a way to remember Him and everything He said. And so this was His way.

Every time the disciples took communion (and if you read the rest of the New Testament, you’ll find it was a lot) they were reminded that it was because of Jesus’ death and resurrection that they were given the power and anointing to fulfill their destiny. Communion was a continual reminder of what Jesus did for them, and what He did for the whole world, including us! Every time we take communion, we are reminded of Jesus’ work on the cross for us, too.

Let’s pray together…

“Dear Father, You are so good to us! Thank you for the work you did on the cross for me, and for everyone around me. Help me to remember the power and anointing You gave me to tell those all around me about You and Your love for them. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Here’s a verse to read today. Read it out loud with your mom and dad. Talk about what it means with them. Also, you can join the whole church for a special communion time tonight at 7 pm on FaceBook Live as we do just what Jesus and His disciples did…

“This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” Luke 22:19

And here’s a fun activity idea for you! Bead & clay crosses

Take a picture of your results and send it to me at hello@gatewayvictory.com.

I hope you’ve enjoyed these devotionals this week. See you on Easter Sunday!
